FBI Seeks Suspect Who Damaged Abortion Clinic

DETROIT (WWJ) - The FBI is asking for the public's help in trying to find those responsible for leaving a suspicious package outside of a Detroit abortion clinic.

Officials said they believe that this package was left outside of the Summit's Women Center on West McNichols Road sometime between 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 16 and before 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 18.

The FBI said the package did cause damage to the building, but did not elaborate. The FBI is also not saying what the package contained.

In a statement, Special Agent in Charge Andrew G. Arena said the damage to the building may constitute a violation of the FACE Act, a Civil Rights violation.  The FACE act, or Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances, "makes it a federal crime to injure, intimidate or interfere with those seeking to obtain or provide reproductive health services."

Anyone with any information about the packages is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAKUP (773-2587) or the FBI Detroit Office at (313) 965-2323.  There is a $1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of those involved.
