Troy Residents Vote To Keep Library Open
TROY (WWJ) - By a nearly three-to-two margin, Troy voters have passed a key millage that keeps the city library running for another five years. A 'no' vote would have forced the library to close its doors Friday.
Just over 58 percent of voters approved the five-year dedicated 0.7-mill tax levy, that will generate about $3.1 million a year for the city's library system.
The millage will allow the library to be open 55 hours a week, which is a 10 hour decrease from last year.
This was the third time in the last year-and-a-half that voters in Troy had been asked to decide the fate of their library.
