Reporting Kathryn Larson
Detroit’s Mexicantown is a paradise for delicious authentic Mexican food, but the good eats don’t end when you walk out of the local restaurants. Some would say that the best tacos in Detroit aren’t in any brick and mortar establishment. Instead they would recommend that you drive a few more blocks off the freeway and look for the taco trucks like Tacos El Caballo, Tacos El Toro and El Taco Veloz.
WWJ Newsradio 950 reporter Kathryn Larson went on the quest for the perfect “taco-truck” taco around Mexicantown.
Looking to get some of these tasty tacos? Here’s how you can find them.
Tacos El Toro
We visited the truck in the parking lot of the Shoe Depot Outlet.
It’s located on the southwest corner of Michigan Ave. and Martin St.
Tacos El Caballo
This truck is across the street from Charlie’s Bar near the corner of Longworth St. and Springwells St. The horchata (rice water) was so refreshing!
El Taco Veloz
Find this truck next to the loading dock of a building off Livernois Ave. near Toledo St. The grilled onions are fantastic! Be warned that their grilled jalapeño is very hot!
All of the trucks take cash only. As far as hours operation, many trucks are open during the weekday lunch hour. All three are also known for being open past midnight.
