DETROIT (WWJ) – Rain showers and thunderstorms are hitting the metro Detroit area. There is an areal flood advisory for Macomb and Wayne counties.

The National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms with heavy rainfall across the advisory area.

Doppler radar estimated around 2 inches of rainfall across northern sections of Detroit and approaching two inches near Sterling Heights.

Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause minor flooding to occur… especially along small streams and near low water
crossings. Some locations that will experience minor flooding include… Detroit… Grosse Pointe Shores… Mount Clemens… Macomb Township and Sterling Heights.

Whenever there are storms there are precautionary -preparedness actions that you should observe:

Excessive runoff from this storm will cause minor flooding of small creeks and streams… urban areas… highways… streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

WWJ-TV Chief Meterorologist Jim Madaus states that we could be looking at strong, severe storms on Sunday, with most of the heavy stuff moving out and we’ll see a clearing on Monday going through the week.
