Students Begin New 'Med-School' At Oakland University

ROCHESTER (WWJ) - Monday is a big day for William Beaumont School of Medicine and Oakland University. WWJ's Rob Sanford says it's the first day students will arrive for a new joint-medical school.

Beaumont President and CEO Gene Michalski says the new school will have classes built around teaching clinical conditions ... and not just basic science.

The students will also train as a team. The new med-school is expected to create hundreds of new jobs and is projected to have an economic impact to the area up to a billion dollars.

It's the first such school to open in Michigan since 1964.

The 50 students who will arrive Monday at OU were among 3,200 applicants.
