Kilpatrick Book Goes On Sale Tuesday

DETROIT (WWJ) - After an unexplained delay, Kwame Kilpatrick's tell-all book finally hits bookstores Tuesday. But, you may have to look far and wide to find a copy.

According to a release by a media company run by Kilpatrick's sister, "Surrendered: The Rise, Fall and Revelation of Kwame Kilpatrick" will initially be sold only at four small Detroit-area stores.

With a list price of $26.95, the book was supposed to be released August first, the day before Kilpatrick got out of prison, but was delayed without explanation.

The disgraced former Detroit mayor chronicles his meteoric political rise and his even faster fall from grace in the wake of the text-messaging scandal and an affair with a former top aide.

Meantime, Kilpatrick's attorneys have asked Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner to reconsider his order that Kilpatrick cannot profit from the sale of the book until he has paid off his $860,000 in restitution to the city of Detroit.

Groner is expected to render a decision next week.
