Demand High For Ex-Mayor's Memoirs

DETROIT (WWJ) - Only four area stores are selling "Surrendered! The Rise, Fall, and Revelation of Kwame Kilpatrick," the newly released tell-all book by Detroit's former mayor, but booksellers say demand is high.

Larry Robinson, owner of "God's World", said he's been trying to keep it in stock.

"Being a small store, what we've been doing is we ordered like 40 and then called back and ordered another 40, and another 40, and they brought them to us," he said.

Robinson said he's already sold over 180 copies, compared to the average five books he usually sells in a day.

"We're not talking about a normal situation. We're talking about a very interesting circumstance here," said Robinson. "It's a piece that I say is controversial. Everyone wants to hear what he has to say, regardless if they're for him or against him, they still want to hear his point of view.

Robinson said this is the highest demanded book he's had in 32 years.

The book was listed on sale at:

God's World – West 7 Mile near Outer Drive in Detroit
Harlem World – Greenfield north of 8 Mile in Oak Park
Truth Bookstore – in Northland Mall
Shrine of the Black Madonna Bookstore – Livernois at the Davison in Detroit
