Former Fab-Five Player In Court For Back Child Support

PONTIAC (WWJ) – A member of the University of Michigan’s former basketball “Fab Five” was in court Tuesday for allegedly failing to pay child support.

WWJ’s Marie Osborne reports from the courthouse in Pontiac.

Jimmy King is accused of being $17,000 behind in child support, for his 17-year-old son who lives out-of-state. The charge is a four-year felony.

King’s attorney says that is very harsh considering King’s never been in trouble before.

“Jimmy has paid $60,000 to the support of this child alone, that is a significant amount of money, and he’ll continue to support his children like he always has,” said King’s attorney Andrew Abood.

“The attorney general is determined to charge Mr. King with a felony – when Mr. King really has no criminal history at all,” said Abood.

King says he takes his responsibilities seriously and he wants this matter resolved.  King has three children.

“We are working with the attorney general’s office to make sure everything is taken care of,” said King outside of court.

A $3,500 dollar bond was set in this case and has been applied to  the back child support owed. The pre-exam was postponed until September 8th.

I have a really hard time with this article. We are in the same situation with past child support owed for the same amount and the father being charged with a felony. In our case the judge just convicted him and let him go told him to pay a certain amount each month for the next 5 years, put him on probation and all he has paid for the last two years was about 600 dollars and that was just to not go to jail. There WAS no bond. When he failed to pay they brought him back in gave him another probation and let him go again…Why are the cases different? And now he gets to go again and again without making payments and no bond is ever required..?? Please address this..
