AWOL Jurors Could Face Jail Time

DETROIT (WWJ) – Hundreds of jurors who have ignored repeated requests for jury duty will find themselves in court in Wayne County this week. Circuit Court Judge Timothy Kenney says 260 jurors could face fines or jail time for refusing to carry out their civic duty.

“We have had a situation over the past several months where judges have wanted to begin jury trials and there haven’t been enough people to be in the pool to begin jury selection,” Kenney told WWJ Newsradio 950.

But Kenney says he really doesn’t want to put people in jail … he just wants them to commit to serve on a jury soon. Kenney says if jurors don’t show up on Wednesday — a warrant will be issued for their arrest.
