Detroit City Council President Holds Virtual Town Hall

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh is connecting with the digital world as an attempt to directly engage with Detroiters and discuss important issues facing the city and the region.

Pugh is hosting an online town hall meeting from his office on Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 to 3:00. Following the online town hall will be a "Tweetup" mixer at Fountain Bistro in Campus Martius Park from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

"We are taking technology to the next level in order to engage more Detroiters," Pugh said in a written statement. "We want to hear from as many people as possible, whether they want to talk about city services, they have an idea, complaint, compliment or they want to talk about the future of the city and how we can fix the city together."

This is the first of many virtual engagement events to come as part of a strategy to engage Detroiters directly.

How To Participate

Participants can log on to www.pughandyou.com/live Wednesday, August 17th, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, to watch Pugh respond to questions live.

Questions addressed during the town hall will be selected both in advance and in real-time. To have your voice heard, post your question on Facebook or Twitter. Video submissions will also be accepted. Simply upload your question to YouTube, then post the clip on Facebook or Twitter.

Skype users can also connect with Council President Pugh live during the Online Town Hall by adding the username "CouncilPresidentPugh" to their contact lists and calling in during the event.

Following the town  hall, Pugh will host a "Tweetup" mixer at Fountain Bistro, located at the west end of Campus Martius Park in Downtown Detroit at 800 Woodward Avenue. Parking validation is available at the Compuware parking structure on Farmer Street off Monroe.
