17-year-old Arrested In Grandmother’s Stabbing

BURR OAK TWP. (AP) – Authorities say a 17-year-old has been arrested in the stabbing of his 55-year-old grandmother in southwestern Michigan.
The Kalamazoo Gazette and the Sturgis Journal report Georgeanna Sparks was stabbed Thursday afternoon at her home in St. Joseph County’s Burr Oak Township.

Authorities say she was found outside the home with stab wounds to her throat. She was airlifted to a Kalamazoo hospital, where she last was listed in stable condition.

St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough planned to review the case Friday and decide whether to authorize charges that could include attempted murder. McDonough says a verbal dispute apparently turned physical, and a knife was recovered from the scene.
