DETROIT (WWJ) - Back to school time can be exciting for students, but can definitely get expensive for parents. If you’re in need of school supplies for your middle to high school aged student, look no further than a special backpack giveaway at Perfecting Church on Detroit’s northeast side.

Youth Pastor Shaun Maloy said their target is for middle and high school students.

“The idea was to help alleviate the lack of supplies our children have going back to school, so we have backpacks, paper, pencils, pens, the whole gamut, and we’re going to be giving them away.”

Pastor Maloy said they have enough goodies for about 400 students, and even have some tech gear to pass out too.

“We have a certain about of Texas Instrument calculators too. It’s a lot of wonderful things.”

The giveaway is from 6:00 to 9:00 Friday night. Perfecting Church is located between Van Dyke and Nevada on the city’s northeast side.
