Shooting Inside Detroit McDonalds

DETROIT (WWJ) - A bold armed robbery attempt at a Detroit McDonald's Friday. WWJ's Sandra McNeill reports, it has left a 16-year-old boy dead.

Detroit Police Lieutenant Dwayne Blackmon tells WWJ that it all started when the teen walked into the McDonalds at Livernois and  McNichols armed with a gun.

"... the individual came into the McDonalds and attempted to rob the McDonalds ... as he was exiting a retired, Detroit Police Officer intervened and shots were exchanged and this individual was fatally wounded," said Blackman.

Workers in a nearby tell WWJ that there have been a rash of robberies in the neighborhood over the past week.

Sierra Lashar says she is saddened by the shooting, "I think they could have taken other precautions other than killing him, he's young, even though he made a mistake..." she said.

No other persons were hurt inside the restaurant.
