Baby Taken During Custody Hearing Has Been Found

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit Police have confirmed a four-month old girl who went missing earlier this week in Detroit has been reunited with her father.

Police say Evelyn Daniel is now with her father, Damon Daniel, who was given custody during a hearing Thursday in Wayne County Juvenile Court.

It was at that same hearing when Evelyn went missing, after a fight erupted among family members. The argument broke out after the judge awarded full custody to Daniel. When the judge ordered the mother's family to turn over Evelyn, they said they didn't know where the baby was.

Last week, the girl's father, Damon Daniel, allegedly shot and killed the girl's mother, 26-year-old Ebony Gaines. The Wayne County Prosecutor refused to press charges, saying the shooting was in self-defense, which Gaines' family disputes.

Reports say Evelyn was handed over about 4:00 Saturday morning at a restaurant.

It is unclear at this time who took the child, and whether or not charges will be filed.
