Dream Cruise Route Closed As Storm Rips Through Area

DETROIT (WWJ) - Berkley Police report that the entire Woodward Dream Cruise route has been closed. No further details on when or if that will reopen.

A WWJ tipster reports that a transformer blew at Normandy and Woodward with wires down and possibly a fire.

In West Bloomfield,  one neighborhood is littered with tree branches.

WWJ spoke with Karen Kawer, she lives in the area of Middlebelt and Maple ... and says, it's an absolute mess.

"It is unbelievebale, almost every single tree on the street is knocked down," stated Kawer.

Kawer describes the damage as something she has only seen on T.V.

About 48,000 DTE customers are without power Saturday because of the gusty storms that rolled through the metro Detroit area.

Other weather damage reports coming into WWJ newsroom.

Trees are down throughout Memorial Park in Royal Oak.

Sixty m.p.h. winds reported in in Southfield and Berkley ... also trees and power lines down in Hamburg and Pinckney.

Windows blown out at Hillers Market near Maple and Orchard Lake, several cars in the parking lot were also damaged by the storm.

Trained spotters report that there are falling branches in Warren with high winds.

About 48,000 DTE customers are without power Saturday because of the gusty storms that rolled through the metro Detroit area. Crews are working to make repairs.
