One Win Doesn't Guarantee A Division Title

Rob Sanford

Sunday's Tiger victory was significant....but does it herald of things to come? Maybe. Manager Jim Leyland is quick to poo-poo the idea of momentum and whether it can play a factor in wins and losses. I do agree with him on that point, but then again if the Tigers go on to win it all, remember that throw from center fielder Austin Jackson to gun out a runner at home and seal a 3 game sweep over the Indians. While I don't think it gives Detroit any particular extra ooomph...I may buy the fact that if Cleveland comes back to win after being down 7 to nothing...it could've been a confidence builder.

In 2006....I was amazed all season that even while the Tigers were playing in their first winning season in forever...fans still were still critical because it still wasn't good enough. Now in 2011......fans and sports radio station hosts moan and groan about the line up....about bringing up Brandon Inge...and a contract extension for Jim Leyland and Dave Dombrowski. Despite all of the obvious "incompetence" somehow, perhaps by "miracle" the Bengals find themselves in first place with Labor Day now in sight. Yes, I'm being a smart aleck, and while everyone has the right to criticize decisions and how the team plays, lets remember that there are all kinds of teams  that are headed by so-called "brilliant" baseball management...that wish they were in the Tigers place.

Who says Detroit is a Lions town all the way??? The Tigers have now passed the 2 million mark in attendance...for the 7th year in a row...and the 14th time in team history. Add to that to the fact...the week end series against the Indians had the largest 3 game series attendance since the team moved to Comerica Park. This in view of the fact that Michigan's economy continues to struggle.
