2 Charged In Drive-By That Injured Baby

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - An Inkster couple has been arraigned in connection with last weekend's shooting of a 10-month-old boy in Roseville.

The 27-year-old Kevin Lee Smith is accused of firing shots into the home of his former girlfriend as she held her baby son.  A bullet fragment hit the child in the head. He suffered a head wound but is expected to be survive.

Investigators said Smith was reportedly angry over a paternity dispute with the baby's mother, who is also the mother of his 2-year-old daughter.

Smith's current girlfriend, 27-year-old LaTasha Marie Hudson, is also charged in the case.

"It is our believe that when they left the house it was with a clear understanding that they were going to the Roseville home to shoot it up," said Roseville Deputy Police Chief James Berlin.

Smith has been charged with five separate felonies arising from Saturday's events, including two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, while Hudson is facing two counts of Assault with Intent to Murder.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Marie Osborne reported that Hudson was led from the courtroom in tears following the arraignment.  Her bond was set at $500,000.

Smith's bond was set at $1 million.

The victim's aunt, Terri Norington, was pleased.

"I'm glad that the judge gave him a million-dollar bond. He do not need to walk the street at all," she said.

Both Smith and Hudson face the possibility of life in prison if convicted.
