DETROIT (WWJ) - Forecasters say we can expect some wild weather overnight. A Tornado Watch has been issued for all of Southeast Michigan until 1 a.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service says severe thunderstorms can be expected across Metro Detroit Wednesday evening, as a cold front collides with warm, humid conditions.

“The fuse has now been lit,” said WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Dave Bowers. “We expect to see some scattered strong to severe thunderstorms coming down across the region here as we go through the evening hours,” adding that Metro Detroit residents should expect downpours and damaging winds.

Thunderstorm watches and warnings were issued in several counties across the area.

According to the National Weather Service, this system has the potential to create tornadoes, hail to 2.5 inches in diameter, wind gusts up to 80 mph and dangerous lightning.

As storms rolled through Sanilac County early Wednesday evening, trained weather spotters reported damaging winds and hail up to 1-inch in diameter.  Local police reported a tree had fallen on a house.

Bowers said most of the storm activity should have come and gone by around midnight.
