Employees, Employers Explore Housing Options On 'Live Downtown Tour'

DETROIT (WWJ) - Dozens of employees and employers will be touring downtown Detroit Saturday as part of the "Live Downtown Tour." The event will offer housing availabilities for employees of certain Detroit businesses who are offering incentives to have their workers live closer to their offices.

Sabra Sanzotta is the owner of The Loft Warehouse, a Detroit realty company who is sponsoring the tours. She said the event will offer Detroit employees a chance to see the kind of housing that's available downtown.

"We'll be taking busloads of employees to see properties Downtown, both for rent and for sale, that fit the criteria for eligibility for the Live Detroit incentives."

Sanzotta hopes the incentives will help encourage employees to move to the city.

"A number of larger Downtown employers have offered their employees a cash rebate of the $2,500 if they choose to rent a place within the Downtown boundaries. Now, the idea is to get their employees to live closer to work."

And the incentives are even higher for those looking to purchase a home through the program, up to $20,000.

The tour, which runs from noon to 2:30 p.m., will also be attended by human resource representatives from corporations that are relocating employees to the downtown area.

Stops along the tour include The Carlton Lofts, Garden Lofts, Washington Square Apartments, Hudson Lofts and New Amsterdam Lofts.
