Wow Buying Broadstripe Cable Michigan Systems

Colorado-based Wow Internet, Cable and Phone announced last week that it has entered into an agreement to purchase Broadstripe's cable systems in Michigan.

Texas-based Broadstripe filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January 2009. Its systems in Washington and Oregon will be sold to the Washington-based operator Wave Broadband, and the Maryland system will be sold to Anne Arundel Broadband.

As a result of the acquisition, Wow will now serve an additional 79,000 households in the Lansing, Flint, Grand Rapids and Detroit markets.

Wow has served more than 600,000 households in southeast Michigan for more than a decade.

"We are very excited about this acquisition and the opportunity to invest and further grow our business," said Wow president Steven Cochran. "Wow's operating philosophy is to deliver an employee and customer experience that lives up to our name and we look forward to welcoming Broadstripe's employees and customers into the Wow family."

Wow is based locally in Madison Heights.

The sale must be approved by the federal bankruptcy court.
