Roseville Residents Make Noise Over Loud Car Stereos

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - A protest is planned for Tuesday in Roseville, as one resident who has long complained about noisy car stereo takes his beef to the streets.

Mark Roberts has pitched a six-year battle with city officials to crack down on violators, especially those going to and from the high school near where he lives.

Another resident, Betty Beatty, said she has to shut her windows when the car stereos with thumping bass speakers roll by.

"The street I live on is a very busy street, so people kind of go fast down there and they do have the loud radios. So, it is a problem for us. I sit on the porch and I can hear their radios," said Beatty. "I don't want to roll up my windows because I like the breeze coming through."

Roseville resident Mike Leonard can't help but hear the boom of passing car stereos while sitting in his house. He said he did the same thing as a teenager, but even this is over the top.

But it is really up to City Hall?

"The police, you know, they got enough to do out here and everything. But, I think other people just having more common sense ... you know, parents and more personal responsibility just to think of others," Leonard said.

City officials say it's a difficult law to enforce, and even then all police can do is write a ticket.

Tuesday's protest is set for 5 p.m. at the corner of Gratiot at 13 Mile Road.
