Some Borders Bookstores Will Survive With New Name And Look

DETROIT (WWJ) - A handful of Borders bookstores will live on, but with a new name and a new look. WWJ Newsradio 950's Paul Snider reports on the reorganization.

Ann Arbor-based Borders has been in liquidation for weeks after failing to find a buyer during bankruptcy proceedings.

Now there's word that an Alabama firm, Books-A-Million, has been given approval by a bankruptcy judge to purchase 14 Borders stores, taking over their leases Sept. 20.

It isn't known where those stores are located. Borders got court approval to liquidate its remaining 399 stores in July.

At the time, Books-A-Million was in talks to acquire 30 leases, but no deal materialized right away.
