INDEPENDENCE TWP. (WWJ) – Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide Saturday morning in Independence Township. One woman, 56, is dead, a man (her husband) is in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his shoulder, the 25-year-old alleged intruder is dead.

Police received a call from a 19-year-old woman who arrived home after a night out with friends and said there was a man in her house with a gun. The woman hid in a closet and told police she thought that her parents had been shot.

The woman said the man involved was someone she knew from the Salvation Army where she works in Oxford Twp. She met him there as a result of his doing community service for a marijuana conviction.  He had previously indicated an interest in her but she told him she already had a boyfriend.

When deputies arrived they found that her parents had been shot.  The parents were transported to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital where the mother died Saturday morning.

Autopsies will be conducted on the suspect and mother by the Oakland County Medical Examiner.

Identities of those involved have not been released pending further notice.
