Kilpatrick To Speak At Detroit Church, Sign Book

DETROIT (AP/WWJ) - Former mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is expected to answer questions from city residents at a Detroit church before signing copies of his book.

Kilpatrick is to appear Sept. 13 with the Rev. Spencer Ellis at Citadel of Praise Church in northwest Detroit.

Kilpatrick also will sign copies of "Surrendered: The Rise, Fall and Revelation of Kwame Kilpatrick." The book offers the ex-Mayor's point of view on a number of topics, including the scandal that led to his fall from power.

The book costs $26.95 and has been for sale online. It also went on sale at four Detroit area bookstores last month.

Money made by Kilpatrick from the book's sales will help pay more than $800,000 he owes the city in restitution as part of a plea in a 2008 criminal case.

Kilpatrick was released Aug. 2 from a Michigan prison where he spent 14 months for violating probation in that case.

He has been living with his family in Texas while he awaits trial on federal charges in a corruption case.
