Charity Gives Free Jackets To Women In Need

DETROIT (WWJ) - "Jackets for Jobs," a nationally recognized local charity, will be giving away one thousand jackets to women in need Thursday morning in downtown Detroit.

Jackets for Jobs founder Alison Vaughn said the jackets are brand new with a retail value of $150, donated by T.J. Maxx. The organization is looking to give the jackets to women and college students who are at least 18-years-old.

"It's on a first come first serve basis," Vaughn said. "Our goal is to give out 1,000 jackets and they're really nice, lightweight Fall jackets. And so, they just come on down. We have all sizes."

Since opening their doors in 2000, Vaughn said Jackets for Jobs has assisted more than 14,000 individuals and helped change the lives of women.

"We just keep a box of Kleenex at the office because, you know, it's so touching and it makes me cry when people say 'Thank you so much, that suit that you gave me, it helped me get an interview.'"

The jacket giveaway takes place between 10 a.m. and noon at the downtown office of Jackets for Jobs, located at 455 W. Fort Street.
