Woman Found Beaten To Death In Her Detroit Apartment

DETROIT (WWJ) - After she didn't show up for work this week, a young woman's family made a horrific discovery at her home on Detroit's west side.

Co-workers contacted Kiara Coachman's family after she had not shown  up for her job at the Taylor Burger King for three days. When her father went to her apartment near Joy Road on the city's west side to see what may be wrong, he made a gruesome discovery - his 22-year-old daughter had been beaten to death.

A man who lives in another part of the apartment complex has been questioned, but police have not yet made an arrest.

Relatives say they think Coachman knew her assailant, given there was no forced entry, and nothing was taken except her cellphone. They believe whoever killed her took the phone so police couldn't see the last numbers on it.

Police don't have a motive in the brutal murder and are now awaiting autopsy reports for a possible cause of death.

Coachman's family said she had strong aspirations to be an actress or a model and was trying to save up some money to make her dreams come true.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detroit Police Homicide at 313-596-2260 or the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-800-SPEAK UP. You can also text your tip to CRIMES (274637). Text tips must start with the letters DPD, followed by the tip information. A $2,500 reward is being offered for tips leading to an arrest.
