Despite Allowing Perjury, Former Prosecutor Will Be Allowed To Practice Again

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit-area's former top drug prosecutor will be allowed to practice law again, despite allowing perjury at a major cocaine trial.

Karen Plants pleaded guilty in March to misconduct in office and was sentenced to six months in jail. The Michigan Attorney Discipline Board has suspended her law license until spring 2013.

Plants was head of the drug unit in the Wayne County prosecutor's office. She allowed an informant and police officers to lie about the informant's role in a 103-pound cocaine bust.

Plants says she was trying to protect the informant but has acknowledged that allowing perjury at trial was wrong. Two police officers pleaded guilty and a retired judge still is facing trial.
