The Detroit Tigers won their 8th straight game – and won for the third time in eight home games on a walk-off home run – when Brandon Inge hit a solo shot with two outs in the bottom of the 9th to deliver a 3-2 win over the Twins. Max Scherzer didn’t get the win – but he pitched seven strong innings, allowing just two earned runs….and the Tigers record improved to 19-11 on days he starts. Wilson Betemit homered earlier in the game to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead, Victor Martinez had a two-out RBI single in the 4th for the Tigers’ other run. Inge hit his home run off Glen Perkins, who had allowed just 1HR in 56 innings going into the game.
The Tigers have now won 18 of 22 games, and have opened up a one and a half game lead over Texas in the race for the second-best record among Division leaders. The Tigers wrap up their series with the Twins today, then hit the road for nine games with Chicago, Oakland and Kansas City, starting tomorrow in Chicago.
