Michigan GOP Lawmaker Loses Appeal In Recall Case

FLINT (AP) - A Republican state legislator from Genesee County has lost another appeal in his effort to avoid facing a recall election.

Rep. Paul Scott of Grand Blanc would be the first state lawmaker to face a recall election since 2008. A ruling Monday from Genesee Circuit Court Judge Richard Yuille leaves the recall proposal on track for the November ballot, although Scott plans to file a new appeal in an Ingham County court.

Scott had argued that the recall language targeting him wasn't clear. House Republican spokesman Ari Adler says Scott's next appeal will argue that voter signatures collected before Monday's clarity ruling should be considered invalid.

The recall is being financed by the state's largest teachers union, which is upset over Scott's support for changing teacher tenure law.
