Wednesday Event Means Jobs, Jobs, Jobs

Okay, so I have only one more day to plug our "Igniting Innovation in Michigan: Putting Detroit Back To Work" event in Novi Wednesday, so I'm going to make the most of it.

If you're looking to reinvent yourself, whether in your current job, a new entrepreneurial opportunity or a new gig working for a different employer, we've got you covered at this all-day event.

The day begins with a continental breakfast at 8:30, followed by a keynote speech by Richard Sheridan, CEO of Menlo Innovations in Ann Arbor, from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Sheridan is the guy who went from the unemployment line to the cover of national business magazines by hiring himself and jumping on a whole new way to develop software (in teams, and in the light).

This part of the shindig is sponsored in part by Kettering University, Bizdom U, hiredMYway.com and UHY LLP.

After ample networking time, we move into the 60-Second Showdown. That's a one-minute elevator pitch competition in front of startup experts and venture capital funding sources -- people who can help you buff up your business pitch to a perfect shine and get you the resources you need to make your entrepreneurial dreams come true.

This part of the day is sponsored by the Oakland Chamber Network, the Clarkston Area Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce, the Waterford Area Chamber of Commerce, the Auburn Hills Chamber of Commerce, the Troy Chamber, Michigan Chiropractic Specialists, the OU Branch of MSU Federal Credit Union, Paulsons Audio & Video, Michigan Financial Cos., Bright House Networks Business Solutions, Meisner & Associates P.C., BAXI System for Business, Identity Graphic Design, MotionEcho Media, Andrew Solomon, George Piliouras Creative Communications, and Pilchak Cohen & Tice P.C.

Then, with a separate ticket required, we move into lunch time and a keynote speech from Josh Linkner, serial entrepreneur, founder of the Internet's biggest contest-management company, ePrize LLC, and author of the business best-seller "Disciplined Dreaming."

After that? Well, it's merely Michigan's largest career expo, the hiredMyway.com Career Expo, with more than 70 companies and 7,000 job openings available to attendees.

Among those hiring will be Beaumont Health System, ePrize, Compuware, Quicken Loans, US Border Patrol, Olympia Entertainment, Mercedes Benz Technology and more.

For more information on the event, visit this link.

For more information and to pre-register for the Career Expo, visit www.hiredmyway.com/HiredMyWay/careerRedirect.action.

After registering for the expo, make sure you fill out your profile completely prior to attending the expo -- this will help you to avoid longer lines.

Also, to make the most of your time at the Career Expo, research the companies and their job openings before you attend, prioritize which companies you want to visit with first, write and rehearse a 30 second pitch about your background and experience to share with hiring employers, and dress up like you're going to an interview -- always make a great first impression!
