US, Canadian Searchers Seek Missing Scuba Diver

PORT HURON (WWJ/AP) – Canadian and U.S. rescuers have been searching the St. Clair River for one of three men in scuba gear who failed to surface after a dive.

U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Justin Westmiller said an instructor and two students went into the Canadian side of the St. Clair River near the Blue Water Bridge on Monday afternoon, and only two emerged.

A spokesman for the Ontario Provincial Police told WWJ Newsradio 950 that they are continuing their search, but believe the current may have carried the body further south.

The bridge links Port Huron, Mich., and Sarnia, Ontario. Both nations’ coast guards and local crews have been aiding the search. The Times-Herald of Port Huron said the divers are Canadian.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
