Oakland County Wins Best Web Site Award For Fifth Consecutive Year: Oakland County's Web site has been named one of the best government Web sites in the nation for the fifth consecutive year. Oakgov.com garnered second place among more than 3,000 counties in the Center for Digital Government's 2011 Best of the Web competition. The annual Best of the Web ranking honors outstanding government Web sites that have taken the power of the Web to the next level. Oakland was recognized for innovative use of technology in delivering high quality services despite tight fiscal constraints. Oakland's newest offerings make the county Web site more accessible and easier to use. Highlights include Mobile Touch, an alternative version of Oakland's Web site designed for touch-screen navigation and browsing (http://www.oakgov.com/mobile/); Oakland County Dashboard (http://www.oakgov.com/dashboard/), a public financial transparency and accountability portal that enables residents to monitor the progress of their county government in areas such as its three-year budget, support of small businesses, and community and home improvement; online text-to-speech technology that allows Web site visitors to hear page content read aloud on demand; numerous online services, all with secure e-commerce transactions compliant with Payment Card Industry standards; customizable email subscriptions, alerts and RSS feeds; hundreds of videos and podcasts; thousands of downloadable speeches, presentations, documents, reports, forms and applications; more than 23,000 pages of information on government programs and services; and advanced site search and indexing. Oakland County was recently ranked one of the most digitally advanced counties in the nation in the Center for Digital Government's 2011 Digital Counties Survey.
