Artist Tyree Guyton To Sign Book In Ferndale

FERNDALE (WWJ) - Tyree Guyton, the artist behind the famed Heidelberg Project, signs his new book this Saturday at the Funky Ferndale Art Fest.

The book, "Magic Trash," tells the story of how Guyton worked with his grandfather to change a decaying east side neighborhood into a colorful art project.

"We've waited a long time to have this story told," Guyton said in a statement. "My grandpa was very important in my life and I'm so pleased to share the story with young readers."

The book doesn't come out until October, but folks will be able to buy it early.

Jenenne Whitfield, Guyton's partner, told WWJ Newsradio 950 there's another reason for buying the book now.

Tyree Guyton leaves on October 25th for a year. He'll be in Switzerland ... so, I'm hoping that we can get as many people aware of the book, so they can get it signed, as possible," Whitfield said.

Guyton will sign books between 1  p.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 17 at Elegance By Design at 231 West Nine Mile Road in Ferndale. The event will coincide with the 2011 the Funky Ferndale Art Fest.
