Employees From Credit Union Give Back To Community

DETROIT (WWJ) - Hundreds of people connected with a local credit union are devoting their weekend to improving Metro Detroit.

Employees at the Community Choice Credit Union will be joined by friends and family as they clean up and raise money for five local organizations.

Ray Black, the credit union's chief marketing officer, says it's the third year has held the so-called "Big Give Weekend."

"I think there is a big sense of pride ... we picked these different charities every year based on recommendations from our team members and a lot of them are team members that have some type of personal connection to the charities," said Black.

"It's important to us, it's part of our culture. Really, the whole thing we do, we believe as an organization that if you pull together as a group you can give beyond individual means," added Black.

The nearly 250 volunteers will raise money for the American Diabetes Association and Canterbury on the Lake Nursing home through a run and walkathon. They'll also lend a hand at Gleaners Community Food Bank and do some cleaning up at Vista Maria and Kensington Metro Park.
