Former Red Wings Great Has New Career Off The Ice
DETROIT (WWJ) - From a hardcore hockey player ... to Hardcore Pawn. One of Detroit's most popular players during his time in the NHL has a new gig.
WWJ's City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas found former Red Wings great Darren McCarty wheeling and dealing at American Jewelry and Loan in Detroit. It's his second week on the job.
"This isn't a stunt or a gimmick or anything like that," McCarty told Thomas. "I'm literally like working here. Wanted to learn the business and, you know, the goal is -- I think -- that I got some things to offer as far as, you know, with the work ethic, leadership and I'm just ... I'm just having a blast."

As far as any face time on Hardcore Pawn, which is shot at the shop, owner Les Gold says:
"You know, he's no different than any of the other employees. The only difference is he has four championship rings, which most of my employees don't have."
