Glasses Stolen From Ernie Harwell's Statue
DETROIT (WWJ) - If you've been to Comerica Park to see the Tigers, no doubt you've seen the statute of Hall of Fame broadcaster Ernie Harwell.
But, WWJ's Rob Sanford reports that unless you're really observant, you may not know something is missing from the statue.
You'll find the bronze likeness of everyone's favorite Tiger announcer -- the late Ernie Harwell -- not far from the main gate inside Comerica Park. But sometime over the last couple of months, somebody pried the glasses right off the statue's head. The big question is: how could someone get up on the pedestal and take the glasses and no one see's it happen?
In any case, some new glasses are being made at a Kalamazoo foundry and will be in place in time for the season's final home stand.
