Body Of Girl Found In Lansing-Area Home

ST. JOHNS (AP) - Authorities say the decomposed body of a 10-year-old Lansing-area girl was found at her home by child welfare workers who were trying to find out why she hadn't been in school.

WILX-TV and the Lansing State Journal report the body of Vienna Parker was found Thursday at the home in St. Johns. An autopsy was planned.
Police say the girl's mother was at the home. Police say she was hospitalized with possible self-inflicted cuts and a stab wound.

Police say child welfare workers went to the home Sept. 7 after Vienna missed the first two days of school at Gateway North Elementary, and her mother said she had been sick.

Gateway Principal Christopher Smith says Vienna had transferred into the school district last spring as a third-grader.
