Tin Can Tourists Roll Into Camp Dearborn

MILFORD (WWJ) - You can see a lot of old style campers out at Camp Dearborn in Milford Saturday. That's where more than 120 members of the Tin Can Tourists have gathered for the weekend.

Forrest Bone has his vintage camper, a 1955 Trotwood there, explaining one of the differences between old and new campers.

"A lot of the interiors, instead of being a lot of compressed wood and a lot of plastic ... the interiors on a lot of these are birch wood, plywood that's been maintained and highly varnished, shellacked, so you've got wood interiors to give you a little more warmth, homey feeling," said Bone.

"There's a little nostalgia in taking something that was going to the scrap -heap, and turning it into something
with a little TLC," says Bone.

People have come from all over the country for this event - adds Bone.
