DETROIT (WWJ) – A new report pegs Detroit as one of the smoggiest cities in the country.
Environment Michigan plans to release more details Thursday morning in the city’s Delray area in southwest Detroit. The report ranks cities in Michigan and across the country for the number of days when the air was unhealthy to breathe last year and this summer. The study is also expected to show that the problem is even worse than first thought because of outdated air quality standards.
The report comes after President Obama’s announcement this month to abandon efforts to strengthen the current outdated smog standard.
Michigan Congressman Hansen Clarke, who has defended clean air and public health, is expected to be in attendance at the Delray Community Center for the announcement of the new data. The event is scheduled to get underway at 10am Thursday.
