Participate in the International Walk To School Day on Oct. 5 by allowing your kids to do just that on Wednesday.
As long as you know the route is safe and that the distance is reasonable, support this form of physical activity to help your kids build muscle and reduce fat.
Today, only 12 percent of children walk or bike to school compared to nearly 50 percent only 40 years ago. Last year, more than 214 Michigan schools participated.
In Walled Lake – at Keith Elementary School – more than 400 students and their parents joined the effort.
To see if your kids’ school has registered for this year’s walk go to www.saferoutesmighigan.org.
Show your kids that exercise is important and take a step to change the statistic that says 25 percent of Michigan’s high school students are overweight.
