GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ) – Major Michigan retailers are beginning to put out the “help wanted” sign to beef up staff for the upcoming holidays. Grand Rapids-based Meijer says it’s preparing to hire hundreds of new employees for its stores.

The company says while staffing needs vary from store to store, most locations have positions available in the following areas:

  • Meat Department
  • Bakery Department
  • Deli Department
  • Utility Clerks
  • General Merchandise Department
  • Cashier and Service Department
  • Cake Decorators
  • 3rd Shift Stocking

“Meijer is known for friendly customer service,” said Janet Emerson, executive vice president of operations for Meijer.

“In order to provide the service our customers expect during the busiest time of the year, we need to be sure we are staffed properly. We are looking forward to welcoming new team members into the Meijer family who will help us take care of our customers,” she said.

Interested candidates are asked to complete an online application at, and select their store location preference.  Candidates may also complete an online application at the employment kiosks located at the front of most Meijer stores.
