Research: Workers Will Pay More For Company-Provided Health Insurance

DETROIT (WWJ) - New research indicates that workers who get health insurance from their companies will have to pick up more of the costs.

WWJ's Rob Sanford reports that research from health benefit consultants at Aon Hewitt suggests workers can expect about an eleven percent increase in 2012.

Health care costs keep rising and there are fewer younger employees to help defray the rising medical costs of older workers.

Jim Winkler, a managing principal at Aon Hewitt said companies are challenging employees to get healthier and making family plans more expensive.

"We don't really see anything on the horizon for the next two to three years that would make us think that we'll see anything other than a continued seven to eight percent overall cost increase," Winkler said.

The trend became more pronounced since the start of the economy slow down.
