Event Notices From October 10

AimWest Asks, What Has Happened to Journalism?: AimWest, the association for technology professionals in the Grand Rapids area, will host "What Has Happened to Journalism" Oct. 19 at the new Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts Theater, 2 W. Fulton St., Grand Rapids. Networking begins at 5:30 p.m. and the panel discussion at 6:15. AimWest officials say they're starting to notice that journalism and journalists are suffering in the area of digial communications, with very green journalists processing and repackaging what's already out there and a rush to entertain, and less of an emphasis on informing the public. Panelists will include Tim Mak, a reporter for Politico in Washington, D.C., Stanton Tang, news and information director of WZZM TV 13 in Grand Rapids, and Laurie Cirrivelo, executive director of the Grand Raipds Community Media Center, moderated by Bob Taylor, president of Robert James Marketing and Social Wave, a social media management firm.
