John McGuire, Founder Of Guernsey Farms Dairy, Dies At 103

DETROIT (WWJ) - The founder of a popular local dairy company has passed away.

John McGuire, who started Novi's family-operated Guernsey Farms Dairy in 1940, died Friday.

His daughter, Rita Rice, says many people who grew up on the West Side have McGuire to thank for giving them their first job.

"To this day we have people call us, email us and tell us, 'you know, I learned how to work from your dad,' 'I love and honor him more than anyone I've met in my work experiences and that I thank you because I have the good life I have today, because of what your dad taught me,'" said Rice.

Rice says the ice cream shop and restaurant her father established is a community staple.

McGuire lived to age 103.
