ROCHESTER (WWJ) – Students at Oakland University and Oakland Community College are walking to raise money for a health clinic in Pontiac that gives free treatment to the un-insured.

OU grad student Vishnu Ramsamy is spearheading the campaign for a very personal reason. He is a patient at The Gary Burnstein Clinic.

“The goal of this event, if it becomes a successful event, is that it will become an annual event put together by students where we can raise an infusion of funds for the team.”

Ramsamy suffered multiple organ failure following routine gall bladder surgery eight years ago.  He says the Burnstein Clinic provides all of his medication free of charge.

The Oakland to Oakland Health Walk, or “O2O,” route will start at Oakland University, proceed down Squirrel Road in Auburn Hills, travel around Oakland Community College, and end up back at Oakland University.

The walk will be followed by a community health fair, aimed at promoting health, wellness and charity.

All proceeds will benefit the Gary Burnstein Community Health Clinic in Pontiac. The event is scheduled for October 15 beginning at 10 a.m.
