Downtown Detroit Streets To Close For Annual Marathon

DETROIT (WWJ) - Several downtown Detroit streets will be closed Sunday for the city's annual marathon.

WWJ's John Bailey said the city is in for very heavy traffic early Sunday morning for the Free Press/Talmer Bank Marathon.

"Prior to the 7 a.m. start, expect traffic to back up on the M-10 exit ramps at Bagley and Howard Street. I-375 will be congested as well," Bailey said.

"And we can expect temporary street closures on the race route, in the area bounded by I-75, the riverfront, Belle Isle and the Ambassador Bridge. The Windsor Tunnel will be closed between 7 and 10 a.m., but the bridge will remain open," he continued.

The 5K marathon course offers international appeal, traversing both downtown Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, crossing the border at both the Ambassador Bridge and Detroit-Windsor Tunnel.
