Dad Due In Court For Letting 9-Year-Old Drive

BROWNSTOWN TWP., Mich. (WWJ) - A Brownstown Township man is scheduled to be in court Tuesday after using his 9-year-old daughter as his designated driver.

Brownstown Township police pulled the van over after getting a call from a witness on October 8th. 39-year-old Shawn Weimer, seen on video surveillance, had just told a clerk his daughter was driving him around in the early morning hours because he was drunk. A witness called 911.

Police say the girl was behind the wheel -- and in a child booster seat -- when the full-size panel van was pulled over around 3 a.m. Police tell WWJ the girl said to the officer: "What did you stop me for? I was driving good." The father, who was arrested, told police he was teaching his daughter how to drive.
