Crash Kills 21-Year-Old Macomb Man; Twin In Critical Condition

MACOMB (WWJ) - A 21-year-old is dead and his twin brother hospitalized in critical condition after the truck they were driving veered into oncoming traffic in Macomb Township.

The accident happened at North Avenue between 23 and 24 Mile Roads around 5:30 a.m. Friday.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said a Ford Ranger, driven by 21-year-old Jacob Dubaere of Berville Township, was traveling southbound on North Avenue, when it crossed the center lane into oncoming traffic, causing a head-on collision with a northbound traveling mini-van. The mini-van was subsequently rear-ended by a Chevy pickup that was also traveling northbound.

"There was quite a high-speed impact so there was extensive damage to all vehicles involved," Wickersham said.

Dubaere and his twin brother Joshua were transported to Mt. Clemens Regional Medical Center with critical injuries. Jacob Dubaere was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the mini-van, a 42-year-old female from Mt. Clemens, and the driver of the Chevy pickup, a 53-year-old male from Harrison Township, were both transported to Mt. Clemens Regional with minor injuries.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Wickersham said road conditions were wet at the time of the crash and Dubaere's vehicle was traveling at a high-rate of speed.

An investigation is ongoing.
