The MEAP Test-The Real Fall Classic

If it's October, then it's MEAP testing time in Michigan's schools.

Every 3rd grader through 9th grader will take the Michigan Educational Assessment Program tests this month which cover information students learned through the end of the previous school year.

The tests are based on the state's education standards and cover five content areas that include math, science, social studies, writing and reading.

MEAPs measure academic achievement and reveal the strengths and weaknesses of a school district's curriculum. Results can trigger school improvements and help educators analyze whether or not programs are working as well as planned.

To get through these weeks of heavy test-taking, make sure your children get plenty of sleep and start their day with a good breakfast – a few extra hugs would be good, too.
