Police Arrest Middle School Students After Brawl

FLINT (AP) - Police say they arrested 17 middle school students in Flint following a brawl that took place as school was starting for the day.

The Flint Journal reports the fight broke out on a bus ride to McKinley Middle School Wednesday morning and carried over to the school building.

A 13-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy were charged with inciting a riot. The girl also was charged with assaulting a police officer and the boy was charged with assault and battery.

Authorities say they were sent to the Genesee Valley Detention Center.

Flint school district spokesman Bob Campbell says extra officers were called and the school was placed in lockdown. That lockdown was later lifted.

Most students were released to their parents. No serious injuries were reported..
